HERE: How did you become a HERE Map Master? Tri: I’ve been part of the HERE Expert Community since February 2014. When I started contributing in Map Creator, the map coverage in Lombok was very limited and I realized that the Map Creator tool is actually an excellent tool to help promote the potential tourist spots in Lombok. I love sharing my best practices and experience with others so that they can help promote their city/area too. All of these experiences enriched my knowledge of HERE Maps and I can look back and see the great impact and positive experiences I have shared and gained that got me here today as a Map Master. HERE: Do you have any suggestion or tip for wannabe-Map Masters or aspire to eventually become a HERE Map Master? Besides that, you must be willing to share best practices and respond actively to any questions/feedback from the community are some of the desired attributes. HERE: How were you introduced to the HERE Map and what was your first contribution? Tri: I am a Microsoft phone user (formerly Nokia), so I am familiar with HERE Maps. I also read the Nokianesia blog (Nokia Phone User Community in Indonesia) which regularly shares the HERE Expert Community Program. My first contribution was in the HERE Map Creator for road geometry and point of interests around Lombok Island. HERE: Do you participate in other mapping/community activities outside of the HERE Expert Community Program? If yes, please elaborate? Tri: No. Apart from joining the HERE Expert Community Program, I love painting and sketching. HERE: Who has impressed you in the HERE Expert Community Program, and why? Tri: Map Master Wayan Agus Ferianto from Lampung is someone who has impressed me in this community because we shared our experiences in the community with each other regularly. In this way, we can invite more people to join and participate in these local activities. HERE: Final words/your motto as a Map Master? Team Building - The Fun starts with HERE!

The FANTASTILICIOUS HERE Singapore Team Through the years of my working life, I have always been fascinated by the power of events and celebrations to pull people together. Since we spend our days working together and focusing on the business at hand, the work becomes our primary medium for interaction. As such, its character is formal, serious, important, necessary, technical, and administrative. We all accept this as part of the work climate. When there is an organization event or celebration, however, the character changes somewhat. It gives people time to pull back, relax, celebrate what has been accomplished, and look at each other as fellow humans bound together by a common purpose. May 4th. To ensure that all HERE Singapore employees get the opportunity to network and interact with one another, the Southeast Asia Regional Map & Content (RMC) team initiated and organized a series of teambuilding activities across Southeast Asia. First stop – Singapore! Held in the Singapore Management University (SMU) School of Economics and Social science, the teambuilding event aimed to bring together all employees and business units from HERE Singapore for an informal day of getting-to-know-one-another better and sharing of each other’s business updates. Close to 36 HERE employees turned up for a day of sharing sessions from the various business units, group discussion led by the Human Resource team, SEA RMC quarterly award presentation (congratulations to Lian ZhenXiong!) and a mind-boggling real life room escape activity with FreeingSG. The teambuilding ended with a sumptuous dinner at Irodori Japanese restaurant which were relished by the HERE Singapore employees and enhanced an already memorable evening. From a team building perspective, it allows for greater interaction between people separated by functional boundaries. This interaction then gives us the opportunity to see our colleagues from a different perspective, breaking down what may have been hidden barriers to open communication. At the end of the day, I am pretty sure that everyone of us indulged in interesting conversations, picked up random pieces of knowledge and most importantly, had fun! About the Author I work for HERE and this is my personal opinion

Interview with Map Master - Patrick Torres

Patrick Torres is our interviewee today! Visit him on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/janalfredpatricktorres and Instagram: https://instagram.com/patricktorres Enough dilly-dallying! Let’s get to the interview… ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- HERE: Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? Patrick: I’m Jan Alfred Patrick Torres and I’m from Balanga City Bataan, although for the longest time I’m based in Manila because of my studies and now for work. I’m currently working at Wizardsgroup Inc. as a Software Quality Assurance Tester. HERE: How did you become a HERE Map Master? Patrick: It all started during one of our Microsoft Student Partner sessions where the HERE representatives invited us to join a mapping contest exclusive for MSPs and as well as their newly established community in the Philippines. I contributed to the most number of edits in the Microsoft Student Partners edition of the Super Editor and in parallel to that, I was ranked #3 in the HERE Expert Community Philippines Badge Program in 2013 from then on I was named one of the HERE Map Masters for Southeast Asia and representing the Philippines together with 4 other Map Masters at that time. HERE: Do you have any suggestions or tips for wannabe-Map Masters or aspire to eventually become a HERE Map Master? Patrick: There’s only one thing a wannabe-Map Master should remember, “Explore”. Explore our country and discover new places and experience how beautiful the Philippines is. HERE: How were you introduced to the HERE Map and what was your first contribution? Patrick: I have already been using HERE Maps in my smartphone even before I knew about the community during one of our MSP sessions. This led me to do some edits as part of the Microsoft Student Partners edition as part of the Super Editor contest. HERE: Who has impressed you in the HERE Expert Community Program, and why? Patrick: Apart from the people behind HERE itself, one member impressed me when I first join the community. He is one of the major contributors during the early days of the HERE Expert Community and currently a Map Master, Mr. Neil Ross Goco Jr. It’s ironic because I first saw Neil Ross before I became a Microsoft Student Partner and at that instance, I have a hunch that he would be actively involved in communities and it really happened. HERE: What is your best experience so far being a Map Master and in the HERE Expert Community Program? Patrick: The HERE Appreciation Day is by far my best experience as a Map Master. This is where we were recognized for our contributions and got to know the community members more especially my co-Map Masters. HERE: What are some of the areas of improvement which you would like to see in the HERE Expert Community Program? Patrick: Locally, it would be fun if there were “special interest groups” that each community member can join whether the group focuses on cities, barangays, beaches, parks, malls, etc. Internationally, I would like to see all the Map Masters gather in one place and learning from each other’s experiences which would also be a way to boost the Map Master award! HERE: Final words/Your Motto as a Map Master Patrick: Nowadays, a digital map is not just for travelers only but for everyone. Each one of us has gone mobile and always on the move which is why HERE Maps could be an integral part of our every day journey. With the help of the HERE Expert Community, we could all enrich and make it a reflection of our journey through map edits. More travels, more edits, more fun! ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- Very well said Patrick on your motto as a Map Master. Thanks for your amazing contributions to HERE too! Brought to you by the HERE Expert Community Program

HERE: Do you have any suggestion or tip for wannabe-Map Masters or aspire to eventually become a HERE Map Master? Fauzi: As a Map Master, we need to be very active. However, active doesn’t mean we need to contribute a lot, rather we need to have a good sense of ownership of our neighborhood. Once we noticed any updates/changes, we will add those changes/updates via HERE Map Creator and share our best practices with the rest. HERE: How were you introduced to the HERE Map and what was your first contribution? Fauzi: I use Windows Phones (formerly known as Nokia Phones), so I definitely know about HERE Map. My first contribution was on geometry and point of interest around Tasikmalaya. HERE: Do you participate in other mapping/community activities outside of the HERE Expert Community Program? HERE: What is your best experience so far being a Map Master and in the HERE Expert Community Program? Fauzi: Travelling to Jakarta last June was one of my best experience as I got to meet up with all the Map Masters in one place. HERE: What are some of the areas of improvement which you would like to see in the HERE Expert Community Program? Fauzi: Establishing a small local chapter of the HERE Expert Community program based on each region’s activity would be desirable. HERE: Final words/your motto as a Map Master? Indonesia is the fourth largest country in the world and is home to more than 195 million people. While much of Indonesia’s allure lies in its rich cultural tapestry and untamed wilderness, its cities and resorts are also famed for world-class visitor facilities **INDONESIA….**Our story so far Indonesia community membership more than doubled in 2014 and accounted for almost three quarters (71.8%) of edits in the South East Asia region. At HERE, we recognize the vital role these individuals play in the map-making process, adoption and advancement of the map creation technology—and in helping HERE to creating a truly global map so that you will feel like a local, wherever you are. This was the inspiration for the HERE Expert Community Program. Today is a first of a 3-part program series on the HERE Expert Community in Southeast Asia (Part 2 will feature Indonesia and Malaysia and Part 3 will feature Thailand and Philippines) where we are honoring the milestones and amazing community collaboration the group has been cranking out. **SINGAPORE….**Our story so far Singapore’s community membership grew by more than 88% during 2014 and Singapore is a highly urbanized island where most of the roads are navigable by the public. The tertiary institutions and secondary schools were the initial target to grow the community base, as it seemed appropriate and provided an opportunity for the students to do their part and give back to society. Unfortunately, collaborations were unsuccessful due to different demands and challenges. Nonetheless, we are proud of the communities that we have, comprised of individuals who from various backgrounds and all walks of life. Their contributions may not be as high in quantity as some other countries in the region, but quality in the contributions has never been compromised! Four out of five of the HERE Singapore communities members are aged under 30 and most are smartphone users, university and other students, blue and white collar workers. In 2014-5, HERE awarded two top influencers in Singapore with the ‘Map Master’ title, recognizing their excellent contributions. We continue to work with the Map Masters to build our relationship and share ideas. Achievement In late 2014, we organized a 5 day work attachment with Convent of the Holy Infant (CHIJ) Toa Payoh Secondary School. The mission for the work attachment is let the students feel how it is like having to create a map with the highest quality of data. They were exposed to different methods and various techniques to collect navigations on road with our car, collection of point of interests on the field and in shopping malls with the field team, and above all using the Map Creator Tool to “code” in the data they collected over the past few days. Throughout the whole experience, they come to learn how maps are created and maintained and the process of collection to validation and integrating into the map. 2015 and beyond For 2015, the main objective for the HERE Singapore Expert Community Team is connecting all primary, secondary and post-secondary schools to the HERE Expert Community Program. ‘Connecting Schools to the World’ aims to introduce the Map Creator tool as part of the school’s curriculum, expose students to the different methods of collection, techniques and post-processing process and bring a whole new meaning to the word ‘Map’ whenever one holds it in their hand, so that they will truly understand and take into account how everything was perfectly pieced together to reflect reality.
