A New Era of Windows 10 Devices from Microsoft

The devices take advantage of powerful and versatile hardware to unlock new Windows 10 experiences, including fast and secured login with Windows Hello; improved touch and pen experiences on Surface; and Continuum for phones, which enables the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL phones to work like PCs. Showcasing the innovation possible with Windows 10, Microsoft also shared new gaming experiences from Xbox and new details on Microsoft HoloLens, the first fully untethered holographic computer. Now running on 110 million devices around the world, Windows 10 is off to the fastest start in history — seeing upgrades at three times the rate of Windows 7 in the same time period. With more than 1.25 billion visits to the Windows Store, Microsoft announced all-new universal apps for Windows 10, including Box, Facebook, Instagram, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Flipagram, Uber, and others. King of the East

Local Chapter | Bogor To enhance the students skills in Survey and Mapping, community members from the Local Chapter | Bogor (Adi Sanggoro Vocational School) spent around 6 weeks doing field data collection of house numbers in Jakarta. With their extensive background in survey and mapping, this field activity was definitely not a new thing for our 4 musketeers Wiwit, Tanti, Naufal, and Rizki. (Remember our 2 brave guys who conquered the biggest textile market in SEA?) Understanding the Market With 28 million people in the metropolitan area, 6 satellite cities, and nearly 10 million vehicles in daily use, Jakarta is nominated as one of the biggest city in the world. Therefore preparation to define the scope of work was needed to ensure they address the collection in the important area from a user perspective. From the HERE Jakarta office, the duo Risdianto Ade Rubi and Iqbal Dharmaputra also played a significant role to identify the correct area and regularly monitor the activities on a daily basis. The HERE Helmet Preparation become imperfect without good execution, and execution will not reach it’s optimal without good equipment. Introducing the HERE Helmet – the helmet looks like an ordinary motorbike helmet, but if we looked closer, the HERE Helmet uses the “Contour Action Camera" to help us record all the house numbers and point of interest during the collection. By using this special helmet, we can improved the capability, efficiency, speed, and quality of the collection particularly during the collection and post collection step. Action speaks louder than words. Up to date, we have collected 4,000+ new point address and updated it into HERE Map Creator. Good Job Guys!

HERE Explores the Outdoors!

It is truly amazing to see that the HERE Expert Community Program in the Philippines has grown to include so many interesting individuals over the course of a few years. Members come from such diverse backgrounds and age groups. From students to government officials to developers, the HERE Expert Community Program members share the same drive – that is, to share their knowledge and create the best map of the country! Miko Santos is one of these individuals. A mobile developer and an avid mountaineer, Miko is one of HERE Philippines’ leading community members in terms of outdoor mapping since July of this year. With about 21 mountains and over 300 KM of hiking trails added in Map Creator, he has shown what it means to be a HERE Explorer! Taking his love for the outdoors and his passion for mapping, he has also created PH Mountains - a comprehensive guide app (available on iOS and Android) to the multitude of mountains in the Philippines. Users of PH Mountains can search for mountains and photos, organize their trips, check the weather, cross off their climbing goals with a personal mountain checklist, and search for the nearest outdoor stores to buy gear for that next climb.

Consoles, Games Galore at Xbox FanFest 2015

I was elated to receive an invite to the Xbox FanFest 2015 for the 9th of September this year and have the opportunity to see the scores of games and amazing things coming to Xbox this year. The Ground Theatre at *SCAPE was transformed into a den of green, with rows of Xboxes set up for gamers to have an early peek at some of the big titles heading to Xbox. Games that were showcased include the action packed Rise of the Tomb Raider, Just Dance 2016 - the latest installment in the series, the vintage looking Cuphead, Gigantic - a MOBA game that works across Xbox One and Windows 10, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Earth Wars, NBA2K16, FIFA16 and what is probably the crowd and my favorite, Halo 5. Codenamed Osiris after Fireteam Osiris, one of the teams you play as in Halo 5, a full row of Xbox Ones were set up on the upper deck to allow gamers to try out the multiplayer experience. Dave “Walshy” Walsh, a professional esports gamer in the Halo scene was also present. He was on stage with others from 343 Industries such as Franchise Development Director for Halo Frank O’Connor to announce the Halo World Championship that would net the winner 1 million dollars. Walshy recounted how he had in his earlier days taken part in a school competition that got him a few hundred dollars. It is interesting to see the esports gaming scene becoming increasingly prominent, with tournaments like Dota 2 International sporting a USD 6.5m grand prize in August. Games were not the only things that were showcased - 2 limited edition consoles based on the upcoming Halo 5 and now released Forza 6 were on display. The two consoles feature special sounds for startup, shutdown, and when ejecting a disc, along with a specially designed controller. Finally, the consoles will include digital copies of the games they are based on, including some exclusives and DLC. The Forza 6 console is now available at S$639 and the Halo 5 console will be available October 20th at S$739. The Xbox One Elite Controller was also showcased, featuring interchangeable paddles and rubberized diamond grip, adjustable trigger locks and swappable thumbsticks and D-pad. It will be bundled with the Xbox One Elite Console coming later this year with a matte finish, and will have 1TB of storage capacity and feature SSHD storage media compared to HDDs in previous iterations - meaning we can expect the see the console about 20% faster. The long awaited EA Access was also mentioned, it previously not being available in the Singapore market. EA Access is a service exclusive to Xbox One that is subscription based and allows members to play all EA games early, get great discounts on the games and DLCs, and access certain EA games for free in The Vault. Backward compatibility to play Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One was announced to be coming in November - it’s probably now a good time to sell off any old Xbox 360s! Photos: http://1drv.ms/1LkjUKx

IDA Young Tech fest with Microsoft and Azure!

IDA Young Tech Fest is an annual 2-day festival featuring exhibitions and social events in celebration of all technological things. With all things technological there, and roughly 7 educational institutes showcasing their technological innovations, it was a sight to behold! [caption id=“attachment_21138” align=“aligncenter” width=“3240”] What awaits us beyond those doors?[/caption] [caption id=“attachment_21139” align=“aligncenter” width=“3240”] The many chairs awaiting their prospective owners[/caption] Over 2000 attendees participated in the Young Tech Fest to learn more about technology and how to shape the future. From tinkering with wearable tech and robotics, to taking a trip down Singapore’s tech evolution, the participants were engaged in all things technological. Microsoft was there on-site to showcase the technologies available and to encourage students to start their very first web blog using Microsoft Azure. I was also there helping out with curious students. [caption id=“attachment_21140” align=“aligncenter” width=“3240”] Our friendly Student helpers helping out with the booth[/caption] Halley, Shi Qin and Ling Hui were on-site to help out with any queries from the general public as well as activating their student benefits. Students can learn more about how to go about activating their benefits at Funpack if they missed it during the event. Within the funpack that Microsoft is offering, I would like to specially highlight the DreamSpark and Azure offerings in which Microsoft offers free software and the cloud platform to students to help with their learning process. To activate your free offerings, first proceed to Step One and log in using your Microsoft email account. After verifying your student status, proceed to Step Two to verify your phone number via OTP. [caption id=“attachment_21143” align=“alignnone” width=“3240”] Chatting with a student regarding Azure[/caption] I had lots of fun discussing and chatting about Azure with like-minded students who were all passionate about IT just like me! [caption id=“attachment_21141” align=“aligncenter” width=“3240”] Shi Qin helping out with our Kodu Workshop[/caption] Microsoft also held workshops teaching students how to code up a simple game using Kodu. Our friendly helpers were also on-site to help out with those who needed guidance. [caption id=“attachment_21142” align=“aligncenter” width=“3240”] Halley teaching students about Kodu Game Lab[/caption] There were also workshops held to teach participants about how to host a simple resume website using Azure. Here, we have Terence, who is our Technological Evangelist, teaching participants how to set up the resume website. Many people were at Microsoft booth to learn more about Azure or were they? :) [caption id=“attachment_21147” align=“aligncenter” width=“3240”] Crowds at the Microsoft booth[/caption] Younger students who were in for something fun found a Xbox One loaded with Halo waiting for them!
