Interview with Map Master - Cipto Tri Utomo

Hello HERE Maps Readers/Fans, Welcome to another week of ‘Interview with a Map Master’ series. This week’s interview is with Cipto Tri Utomo. (Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/C.TRI.U?hc_location=ufi) Let’s get started with the interview! ———————————————————————————————————————————————– HERE: Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? Tri: My name is Cipto Tri Utomo and I live in East Lombok, Lombok Island, Indonesia. I am working for the local government as an expert staff of East Lombok region. HERE: How did you become a HERE Map Master? Tri: I’ve been part of the HERE Expert Community since February 2014. When I started contributing in Map Creator, the map coverage in Lombok was very limited and I realized that the Map Creator tool is actually an excellent tool to help promote the potential tourist spots in Lombok. I love sharing my best practices and experience with others so that they can help promote their city/area too. All of these experiences enriched my knowledge of HERE Maps and I can look back and see the great impact and positive experiences I have shared and gained that got me here today as a Map Master. HERE: Do you have any suggestion or tip for wannabe-Map Masters or aspire to eventually become a HERE Map Master? Tri: To become a Map Master, our contributions in terms of quantity and quality have to go hand in hand. Besides that, you must be willing to share best practices and respond actively to any questions/feedback from the community are some of the desired attributes. HERE: How were you introduced to the HERE Map and what was your first contribution? Tri: I am a Microsoft phone user (formerly Nokia), so I am familiar with HERE Maps. I also read the Nokianesia blog (Nokia Phone User Community in Indonesia) which regularly shares the HERE Expert Community Program. My first contribution was in the HERE Map Creator for road geometry and point of interests around Lombok Island. HERE: Do you participate in other mapping/community activities outside of the HERE Expert Community Program? If yes, please elaborate? Tri: No. Apart from joining the HERE Expert Community Program, I love painting and sketching. HERE: Who has impressed you in the HERE Expert Community Program, and why? Tri: Map Master Wayan Agus Ferianto from Lampung is someone who has impressed me in this community because we shared our experiences in the community with each other regularly. HERE: What is your best experience so far being a Map Master and in the HERE Expert Community Program? Tri: One of the most memorable experience was attending the Map Master gathering in Jakarta, where all Map Master from Indonesia gathered together and had productive discussions om how to improve the HERE Expert Community Program. HERE: What are some of the areas of improvement which you would like to see in the HERE Expert Community Program? Tri: Local activities initiated and driven by Map Masters. In this way, we can invite more people to join and participate in these local activities. HERE: Final words/your motto as a Map Master? Tri: As a Map Master, we need to be constantly aware of any changes that are taking place in our neighborhood and help to add/update the change into Map Creator so that the information is always the freshest and updated one. —————————————————————————————————————————————————— Wow! Thank you, Tri for the great tips and for all your contributions in the community. Everyone, please join me in thanking Tri! Brought to you by the HERE Expert Community Program

AppHack Singapore 2013

Microsoft Singapore recently hosted AppHack Singapore 2013 which attracted over 300 participants for the hackathon. I was fortunate to be able to interact with tons of great developers and entrepreneurs, and to learn about the latest technology developments and start-up ideas for mobile platforms. Event registration started at 9am and I was excited to see a great mix of experienced and junior developers gathered for the hackathon. After an ice-breaking round of conversations over breakfast, participants gathered for the opening address by Guscloud’s CEO, Vincent Ha. Event partners took turns to share their entrepreneurial experiences (such as the revival of inSing.com from the “Valley of Death”), the latest technologies (such as Pearson’s developer platform and Microsoft’s Open Technologies), and potential development ideas for the hackathon (such as audience engagement for the 28th SEA Games in 2015). The Microsoft booth managed to attract a lot of attention with the promotion of Microsoft Open Technologies and a special giveaway of limited edition t-shirts for tweeting about the event and Open Technologies. After the morning presentations, participants eagerly gathered in their teams and started working on their mobile applications. Numerous breakout sessions were held throughout the day to introduce various technologies and platforms to assist participants in the development of their mobile applications. Microsoft Singapore Technical Evangelist, Chun Siong, gave a special presentation on the ease of developing mobile applications using Windows Azure. Participants had access to a variety of toys to serve as fun distractions from the stress of designing and developing applications, such as Nerf guns, a Parrot AR Drone, and a claw machine that dispenses M&M’s. As night approaches, some participants got ready for the long coding journey ahead, while others took a well-deserved break. I had a great time at AppHack 2013 meeting old friends and making new ones. Hopefully, I will be able to participate in future AngelHack events in Singapore. What do you think of AppHack 2013? Do you have other great events to recommend for us to participate? Do share with us your recommendations in the comments below and we might just do a special report based on your recommendations! ...
