During the Microsoft Build Day 1 keynote, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Stephen Elop and Terry Myerson discussed advances to Windows for developers and consumers.

Highlights from Day 1’s Build keynote:

·         Windows Phone 8.1: Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 8.1, an even better and more personal smartphone experience, and announced an expanding range of hardware partners and devices. Windows Phone 8.1 will start rolling out to existing Windows Phone 8 users over the coming months. It will also come pre-installed on new phones starting this month. ·        Windows 8.1 Update: Microsoft also announced Windows 8.1 Update, a collection of refinements that provide more of what people love about Windows across more devices. Current Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 customers will receive the Windows 8.1 Update for free through Windows Update beginning April 8, 2104.  More details can be found on the Windows blog.

·         Developer Platform: Developers of all types can draw upon their existing skills to deliver universal experiences for Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update which uses roughly 90% of the same code for phones, tablets and PC, feature IE11 across both devices, and enable the creation a single, universal Windows app that targets all Windows devices. ·         Developer Tools: Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 has reached the Release Candidate (“RC”) milestone and introduced a key development work stream called Universal Project.
