For those who know me personally, you’ll know that I love reading feeds from tech websites using Feedly (hello Feedly! I’ll share top websites that I follow closely in a separate post). It is my usual ritual when i wake up while still in bed, when I commute, or just before I go to bed.
However, there are times where I want to read up but I just can’t, simply because I’m doing something else (multitasking FTW!). Usually we’ll just turn to music for this. However, lately I found a solution to that. PODCAST! It’s like listening to a radio talk, but for me, specifically, on tech.
I think listening to podcasts or even audiobooks are suitable to those who don’t like reading that much and have problem of falling asleep when they just start reading a few paragraphs (me! me! *raise hand*).
Here, I’d like to share top 3 podcasts that I listen to regularly.
ShopTalk Show
ShopTalk is a weekly podcast on front end web design, development and UX. It’s hosted by Chris Coyier, the founder of the famous CSS Tricks and co-founder of CodePen, and Dave Rupert, the lead developer at Paravel, a front end web shop in Austin, Texas. There are two formats of the show, i.e. regular episodes with guest(s) and rapidfire episodes. In the former, the hosts invite prominent figure(s) – most of the time just one – in the web design, development, or UX scene. They’ll discuss about current trends, some hot drama, or simply about the guest(s) and then further on to answer some questions posted by live listeners or those that have been sent in previously. What I like about this podcast beside the content is the use of sound effects (kudos to Dave!) and some jokes that they crack in the show.
Pencil vs Pixel
Pencil vs Pixel is another podcast that I like pretty much. It’s available in both video and audio-only formats. The tagline of the show is “Conversations with today’s remarkable creative professionals”, hence it is not just limited to guys on the digital world, but including designers, writers, musicians, etc. This podcast is more personal in a way the host, Cesar Contreras, just discusses with the guest on their daily life, secrets to success, inspirations, and many more. There is no Q&A, there is no hot drama. Another thing is that the host always posts the question “Pencil or Pixel?” to guests of the show. It’s always interesting to hear the opinions of people on this matter. Do share your thoughts on this on the comment section.
Treehouse Show
As the name suggests, it’s hosted by Treehouse – an online learning platform for web and mobile development. The two hosts, Nick Pettit and Jason Seifer, are the instructors there. The topics discussed in the show include latest web technology trends, interesting posts on the web, tools, plugins, and frameworks that are worthy of our attention. Personally, I have found some cool stuff through the show.
That’s all from me for now. Do share with us your comments on the above podcasts and if you listen to any other podcasts 🙂
