*Updated post with link to Mobile Monday event, see below*
Hi guys, following our April events, here’s the schedule for May! We hope to see you all in these events. The April CTP Refresh is also out so be sure to check that out. See below for more info.
WP7 events for May:
- May 13 – i.Match Business Matching
- May 22 – Community Tech Update
- May 27 – Developer Garage
- May 31 – Mobile Monday Singapore
Reminder: For the i.Match Business Matching, you still need to RSVP if you are attending as audience. So we know how many pizzas to order. 😉
WP7 April CTP Refresh
- Through the April CTP Refresh, you can now build Windows Phone 7 apps on the final release of Visual Studio 2010 (The March CTP released last March in MIX10 was not compatible). If you are just using the VS2010 Express for Phone, we still encourage you to update to this April CTP. You can find out here why.
- One important thing to note is that there is a nasty bug in the CTP (with a proposed fix) if you are using signed assemblies in your WP7 projects. (This is also noted in the link above if you’ve read it until the end). If you had projects suddenly just exiting from the emulator session right after running it, chances are you are affected. I encountered this in some of my projects where I used the Silverlight Bing Maps control. The instructions in the link above fixed it for me.
- If you have Blend RC installed, you may want to check this first before installing the April CTP.
- You may encounter this prompt when opening your WP7 projects with the new CTP. It’s totally fine. You can read more about it here. (Tip: It’s worth noting the libraries mentioned at the end of that post ;))
- And finally, we strongly encourage you to read this MSDN page about “What’s New in Windows Phone CTP Refresh”
Getting ready for Launch
We would just like to remind everyone that we are very eager to hear about the apps you’re building for Windows Phone 7. The WP7 Marketplace will be turning “on” this August. By then you can start submitting your apps. But even before that, you have to make sure you have a Marketplace account! If you have DreamSpark, then it’s even a sweeter deal for you. Students also get to compete in Imagine Cup under the WP7 Rockstar category.
Looking forward to hearing about your apps this May!
