Windows Phone 8 Challenge – AR Drone and Canon Selphy CP900 by Tan Chun Siong

 The Windows Phone 8 Challenge is a series of challenges we have inline for developers from today until the end of June 2013. We’re going to give out the following:

2 sets of Lumia 920 + AR Drone 2.0 to 2 developers who are able to deliver applications which controls the AR Drone from Windows Phone
2 sets of Lumia 920 + Canon Selphy CP900 to 2 developers who are able to deliver applications which prints to the Canon Selphy from Windows Phone

These are the 2 initial challenges we have arrange for developers, we will be announcing more. Here are some FAQ, Terms and Conditions we’re prepared for this challenge. If you have more questions, please drop us an email at win8sg@microsoft.com, we’ll answer you and add it to the below list.

Q: Are there official API available for AR Drone and Canon Selphy CP900?
A: That’s the challenge 🙂 There are developers who have succeeded in writing an application for AR Drone, but there was no application published to the store.

Q: Am I allowed to use 3rd party API already build by other developers?
A: Yes, in fact we encourage you to do so. Please check out the licensing/open source agreement and give credits to those developers. Here are some places for you to get started

Q: Wow! First 2 entries for each challenge, won’t this be chaotic when developers goes for a mad rush?
A: We want to try to make this challenge as managed as possible. Do drop us an email at win8sg@microsoft.com so that we will know the number of interest in the challenges.
On a case-by-case basis, we might get more devices to cater to the demand.

Q:What constitute a winning entry?
A: The winning entry application should emulate most of the features available on official applications on other platforms such as iPhone and Android. In a situation where the challenge application is not up to standards, we will shortlist the next best application.

Terms and Conditions
1. This Windows Phone 8 Challenge is open to developers in Singapore. There is no restrictions on nationality, but do take note that we will not ship the winning prizes outside of Singapore.
2. If you are participating in Singapore, we will be able to schedule onsite testing with the testing unit (AR Drone, Canon Selphy) at Microsoft Innovation Centre Singapore.
3. If you are participating outside of Singapore, you will still allowed to take part in this challenge, but do take note that we will not ship the winning prizes outside of Singapore.
4. If you are participating outside of Singapore, we will not be able to provide you with a testing unit (AR Drone, Canon Selphy) onsite.
5. The challenge application must be published via a developer account linked to Singapore to be considered a winning entry.
6. The challenge application can be either a paid or free app, with no restrictions on advertisement.
7. The challenge application should be made available to most markets in the world, with the exception of countries with unique restrictions that is beyond the control of the developer.
8. The challenge application should be made available at least 6 months or more for general public consumption.
9. Developer of the winning application gets to keep the IP(Intellectual Property) and rights associated with the development of the application.
10. With the exception of API constraints beyond the control of the developer, the challenge application should be with best effort made available to both Windows Phone 7.8 and Windows Phone 8.

12. We will not be providing no warranty or exchanges on the prizes awarded. The official warranty would be provided AS-IS by the retailers, distributors and/or manufacturers.
