After two successful editions, “ACE Microsoft Tech Talks” is back with a deep dive into Azure Machine Learning and Modeling by Mr. Pradeep Menon, an experienced Data Science and Business Analytics professional with 13+ years of vast experience from multiple industries.

The event was held at ACE Ideation Centre (28th Oct, 12pm) and drew over 40 participants comprising of startups, developers, students, and industry professionals.

During the session, Pradeep introduced the fundamentals of Machine Learning and Modeling, and provided a demo on building models for specific use cases.

One of the key learnings from the session was the importance of the “B.A.B.” model whereby data scientists are highly encouraged to consider Machine Learning as a tool to facilitate the following objectives:

• Business – Define Business Problem.
• Analytics – Solve Business Problem.
• Business – Tell a Business Story.

To be successful in building data models to gain business insights, it is important to undergo the following process before modeling and deployment.

  • Set success criteria.
  • Define clear data science objectives.
• Map to Machine Learning Problem.
  • Break business problems to data science problems.
  • Identify Machine Learning Problem categories.
• Data Preparation.
  • Understand data points and constraints.
  • Formulate data analytics strategy.
  • Perform required transformation.
• Exploratory Data Analysis.
  • Perform statistical and visual analysis.
  • Discover and handle outliers/errors.
  • Shortlist predictive modeling techniques.

The session was very well received, with numerous participants congratulating Pradeep on providing a concise and clear overview of Machine Learning and Modeling. Participants were eager for more in-depth talks on related topics such as Deep Machine Learning and R programming language.
