The “Brother Land” Story
Located in the heart of Jakarta, Pasar Tanah Abang (Brother Land Market) is the biggest Textile Market and Fashion Retail in South East Asia. Tanah Abang Market in Central Jakarta has been around since 1735 and has an international reputation as a wholesale center for textiles, clothes, shoes and batik, to mention just a few examples.
Thousands of wholesalers open their outlets here as the location is also close to the Indonesia central business, Jakarta Golden Triangle, Sudirman-Thamrin-Rasuna Said, accessible from any direction inside of Jakarta.
Tanah Abang consist of 7 blocks/towers, starting from “A” to “G”, whereby each block has 12-15 floors and is able to accommodate more than 15,000 block kiosks. Hence, collecting this “giant” is definitely not for the faint-hearted ones.
Mission for the Courageous Duo
Meet Naufal and Rizky – our HERE Indonesia Expert Community members from the Local Chapter in Bogor. The duo volunteered to help collect points of interest inside Tanah Abang during their semester holidays. Armed with a background in survey and mapping from Adi Sanggoro Vocational School, the duo were confident that they were able to collect all the stores in all the blocks in Tanah Abang. The only challenge that they faced was that the operating hours of the market was from 7am – 5pm and since their target was to collect all the stores (if possible) within a day, it was definitely a great test of their endurance, stamina and strategy. Did we also mentioned that the duo lived in Bogor which was 50Km away from Jakarta and they had to reach Tanah Abang before the sun rises?
We Came, We Collected, We Conquered
Naufal and Rizky collected more than 8,700+ fix stores inside Tanah Abang for their challenge! Enthusiastic to compile and verify their data, the duo headed off to the HERE Jakarta office the very next day to do the post processing work to get the data ingested into HERE database. Hats off to Naufal and Rizky! Awesome!!
