Om Nom has gone #html5!

The curiously cute green monster - Om Nom is now om-line with 25 levels for free at http://www.cuttherope.ie/! Created by ZeptoLap, Om Nom is built entirely using HTML5. You can use your mouse to manipulate ropes, airbags and bubbles to feed him candy, and collect stars along the way for more points. With the launch of IE9, there have been many wonderful opportunities partnering with developers to stretch the limits of HTML5. A lot of the resulting experiences not only showcase the beauty of the web, but demonstrate how fast, interactive and rich the web is becoming, enabled by platforms such as IE9 and Windows 7. Check out Pirates Love Daisies, Disney Tron, and The World’s Biggest Pacman to see a few great examples of what’s to come for the web we all use and love every day. To get a sense for how the developers at Pixel Lab and ZeptoLab teamed up to turn one of the world’s most popular applications into a web experience, check out the behind the scene technical tear-down in the game. The guys have put together a short video talking about how they took Om Nom online - check it out: Now, remember to pin Cut The Rope to your Windows 7 taskbar as IE9 takes on the look and feel of the game and unlocks unique levels not found in any previous versions of Cut the Rope, giving you a full Om Nom candy eating experience. ...

I attended Microsoft Conference MIX11 last week. MIX is a Microsoft hosted conference that talking about the Next Web with developers and designers in the community. Major announcement of MIX11 was around IE9’s native support to HTML5 and Windows Phone 7 Mango Update. It was a super fun conference for geeks! You no longer need to install plugins to make it work, rather the website handles it for you. Now, consumers have all kind of devices in hand. Without a standard, developers have to code applications against different device which will cost a lot of time. And that’s why we have HTML5 this next web standard, which deliver superior performance through Web-connected devices, play an increasingly important role. I will put up some samples site below and you may want to try it out with IE9. ...

A second look at Jump Lists

I have to admit that when it comes to IE9, I am not as updated as I should be in terms of features. Although we know certain features exist, sometimes you just have try and experiment with them to remember. (In this case, a feature that already existed in IE8). I’m glad I got the chance to attend a whole day pre-MIX event here in MIX11 touching on topics about HTML5 and IE9. The event was mostly about HTML5 really, but I learned a lot about IE9 as well. So I got to re-visit IE features, and probably spent a bit more time thinking about Jump Lists and what else can be done. ...
