Microsoft MIX11 - Native HTML5 experience with IE9

I attended Microsoft Conference MIX11 last week. MIX is a Microsoft hosted conference that talking about the Next Web with developers and designers in the community. Major announcement of MIX11 was around IE9’s native support to HTML5 and Windows Phone 7 Mango Update. It was a super fun conference for geeks! There were a few very interesting websites using HTML5 could be browsed by IE9 natively. What do we mean by “Native Experience” here? You no longer need to install plugins to make it work, rather the website handles it for you. Now, consumers have all kind of devices in hand. Without a standard, developers have to code applications against different device which will cost a lot of time. And that’s why we have HTML5 this next web standard,which deliver superior performance through Web-connected devices, play an increasingly important role. I will put up some samples site below and you may want to try it out with IE9. ...

Innovative Singapore now has an IE9 Jump List!

If you have been following MIX 11, there is alot of buzz about the native experience which Internet Explorer 9 / Windows 7 integration can deliver for web applications. One of these features is the jump list for pinned web application and we are glad to announce that Innovative Singapore is now “jump list enabled”! If you are using IE9 and Windows 7, try pinning the site by dragging it to your Windows Taskbar. Once pinned, right click on the icon and you will be presented with the jump list which presents you with a one-click access to the various sections in Innovative Singapore. ...

A second look at Jump Lists

I have to admit that when it comes to IE9, I am not as updated as I should be in terms of features. Although we know certain features exist, sometimes you just have try and experiment with them to remember. (In this case, a feature that already existed in IE8). I’m glad I got the chance to attend a whole day pre-MIX event here in MIX11 touching on topics about HTML5 and IE9. The event was mostly about HTML5 really, but I learned a lot about IE9 as well. So I got to re-visit IE features, and probably spent a bit more time thinking about Jump Lists and what else can be done. ...
