Cover

Computex is among one of the largest computer and technology trade shows in the world. This is the time where all the IT companies showcase their latest technology. Since Computex Taipei 2015 just ended a few weeks ago, we shall let you know what new technology you can expect in the second half of the year.

Intel

Broadwell
Unfortunately Intel does not release much information about their long waited Skylake CPU. However, Intel release some devices that utilise their 5th generation Core I Broadwell CPU. It uses the 14nm process which will further reduce heat and have better power efficiency.

Intel 100 Series Chipset Motherboard with LGA1151 Socket
Although Intel has not release much about their sixth generation Skylake processor, motherboard manufacturers has started to release more information about their upcoming products.
There are 6 types of chipset for LGA1151 Socket Motherboard H110, B150, Q150, H170, Q170, Z170. All of the chipset supports both DDR3L and DDR4 RAM, as well as GPU overclocking. However, only Z170 chipset supports CPU, GPU and RAM overclocking.

SFF-8639 connector and U.2
Some of you might have read about the ultrafast Intel 750 series SSD. It is using a connector known as SFF-8639. Intel has announced that SFF-8639 will be rebranded as U.2 and it will be used for NVMe-based SSDs in the 2.5-inch form factor.

Thunderbolt 3
Intel has also release their next generation of Thunderbolt connection. The new Thunderbolt 3 has once again, doubled their Thunderbolt 2’s bandwidth to an incredible 40Gbps. Not only that, the new Thunderbolt 3 will be using USB-C connector. Yes, you are right. It is the new reversible USB-C connector from USB-IF (USB-C RULE THEM ALL!). Thunderbolt 3 will deliver 4 times more performance compared to USB 3.1 and deliver connectivity across protocols such as DisplayPort and PCI Express. Thunderbolt 3 is even capable of deliver display up to two 4K 60Hz screens simultaneously or a 5K 60Hz display with just a single cable and we can still have enough bandwidth for USB and Ethernet connection (WOW :O). Since it has PCIe connectivity, we are able to have external GPU docking station attached to a laptop. Maybe we will see a Surface Pro 4 with external GPU for us to play Witcher 3 at 4K resolution?

Microsoft

Windows 10
The wait is finally over! Windows 10 will be officially launched on 29 July 2015. Windows 7, 8, 8.1 home user will enjoy 1 year of FREE upgrade from 29 July 2015. Some of you might see small white Windows logo appear on your toolbar. Do reserve your copy of Windows 10!! If you don’t see it, remember to run your Windows Update via the Control Panel. There are many improvement in the Windows 10 including the return of Start Menu, Cortana, Windows Hello, Microsoft Edge, Continuum, DX12 and of course Office 2016.

Nvidia

GeForce GTX980 Ti
Nvidia has released their latest gaming graphics card GTX980 Ti. Priced at US$350 lower than their current flagship, Titan X. GTX980 Ti is currently the best value NVIDIA card to go for if you want to play 4K gaming. Various GTX980 Ti custom cards has also been released.

G-Sync for Notebook
Finally G-Sync has come to the laptops! G-Sync is basically Nvidia’s solution for variable refresh rates. This allows the GPU to control the monitor’s refresh rates instead of having it at constant 60Hz. G-Sync has been out for PC graphics card for about 2 years, and new it has come to the mobile graphics.

AMD

6th generation APU – Carrizo
AMD has introduced some new technology such as HSA 1.0 Architecture, HEVC Hardware Decode, AMD TrustZone and new Excavator Core. AMD has also showcase their latest Carrizo A-Series APU with DX12 support.

Conclusion

Well…… This is going to be an exciting year with so much new technology coming up. There are just so much things in Computex. If you are interested to find out more, you can always search “Computex 2015” and be overwhelmed with all the amazing technologies.

Cheers Lungic \(^o^)/
